* Note:

Albert seems to have never married or had children. In the 1880 Census,Albert was reported as being born in Quebec. This idea again came up during the 1920 Census, when he reportedly immigrated in 1882 and becamea naturalized US Citizen in1900. However, the 1910 and 1930 Census returns show him as being born in Vermont, which agrees with his parents' reported immigration in 1878. Furthermore, there is an actual birth record of him among the vital records of Vermont.

According to his WWI Draft Registration, Albert was born in the US. He was of medium height and medium build with black eyes and black hair.

NORTH POWNAL, VT, HAS FLOOD DAMAGE -- Albert Arbour Saves Train From Plunging Into River By Flagging It Just In Time
After having had all the telegraph and telephone communication as well as mail service and delivery of food supplies cut off by the flood, North Pownal, VT, which suffered damage estimated at $10,000is now engagedin the task of attempting to restore something like normal condiitons.Selectman John Savery has been one of the most tireless of the relief workers and is still on the job. Greylock Mill Co suffered water damageand will not be able to resume operations for several days, the middlepier under the East River bridge in Pownal was washed away, the Hemlock bridge was washed away, the bridge known as Poor Farm Road is in bad condition, and Friss Hill is impassable. The state line bridge was alsobadly damaged and traffic from North Adams and Troy is blocked. The eastbound track of the Boston & Maine railroad near the New York State line was washed out. The Minute man passed safely over this bridge on Thursday afternoon, but only the fact that Albert Arbour flagged Train No.60 a few minutes later, saved that train from toppling into the river.Just after the train had been brought to a stop, the track curved in for a distance of 75 feet and shortly later the track was undermined for600 feet. Harold Arbour in traveling from Troy, where he attends school, to North Pownal Sunday had to use six different autos provided by the Boston & Maine and reached North Pownal after eight and a half hours of travel.

* Note:Melina could actually be the baby girl baptised as Adrianna. Nothing is known of Melina's baptism and nothing is known of Adrianna after her baptism.

Melina and Eusebe became godparents to Melina's sister Anne in November1875 at St-Charles-de-Borromèe Church in Joliette City.

By June 1900, Melina had given birth to 9 children, 7 of whom were still living. By April 1910, Melina had given birth to 10 children, 8 of whom were still living.

Not sure who the Melina is who passed away in 1907, but it appears as though ours was still living.

619 * Medical Information:Although a blood clot final ended her life, 12 days before her death she suffered ileus, which was then complicated by miscarriage.
* Note: On 20 October 1898, 11-year old Delia was confirmed into the Catholic Church by Reverend Paul BURCHES, Archbishop of Montreal, while in Waubaushene. In August 1905, Delia and her future husband, John LORMAND, witnessed the wedding ofDelia'scousin Thomas ARBOUR and John's sister Delia LORMAND in Victoria Harbour. Perhaps this is how they met. After their wedding, Delia and John set up house in Victoria Harbour and appear to have remained there for the rest of their lives. Beginning just one month after the birth of their eldest child, they became godparents to three family youngstersin Midland: niece Adeline ARBOUR in October 1907, nephew Stanley BOURDON in February 1908, and niece Flora ARBOURin July 1908.Delia and John alsohad nine children of their own. Delia tragically died in St Andrew's Hospital in Midland after childbirth in 1924. A horrible family story alludes to the fact that John was not a kind man and frequently beat his wife. Onthis particular occasion, Johnreportedly kicked Delia, causing severe injuries and a premature birth. This tale is confirmed with the information received in her death registration certificate. While Delia's life was eventually ended by a bloodclot, 12 days earlier she sufferedileus, which is severe abdominal trauma. There is no doubt that this was caused by John kicking her. How hecould do such a thing is a complete mystery. Delia's injuries were further complicated by what thedoctors termed a "miscarriage" although herbaby girl was born alive. In any event, the young mother was buried inVictoria Harbour in St Mary's Cemetery, next to her baby daughter and beside her mother. John later found a stepmother for theirchildren. However, Marguerite GIROUX also hada reputation among the family for not being very well-liked.

She had 9 children

620 * Medical Information:He suffered abdominal injuries when he dove into the Georgian Bay off the government dock across from his parents' house. He died shortly thereafter.
* Note: Young Reggie tragically died as the result of injuries sufferedwhile swimming in the Georgian Bay shortly before his 14th birthday. He had been swimming at the Waubaushene slip, across from his parents' house, off the government dock. He dove in and hit a rock, causing severe internal injuries. The young man languished in pain as he did not dieimmediately but lived for a day.
ARBOUR, Reginald Napoleon (I6613)

621 * Medical Information:He suffered from heart problems for about 3 months before his death. His dropsy was brought about by heart failure.
* Note:Louis and Sidonie added 13 children to their family, four daughters and nine sons, all of whom were born in Joliette County. While their first child was born in Joliette City in 1859, by the year 1870, the family was part of the brandnew St-Emelie-de-l'Energie Parish located further north in Joliette County. In 1871, Louis was a farmer in St-Emelie-de-l'Energie, along with many of his brothers. The family was still living there in 1881. Louis and Sidonie also became the godparents of four children while living in St-Emelie-de-l'Energie: niece Emelie HOULEin May 1877, nephew Martial ARBOUR in August 1879, niece Albina LASALLE in October 1881, and grandson Joseph RIVET in January 1886.

From the 1860s through the 1880s, Louis saw his siblings slowly leave Joliette County in search of better opportunities elsewhere. Younger sister Zoe and her family migrated to Ontario in about 1867.Younger brother Xavier and his family, along withyounger brother Basile, migrated to Ontario in about 1868. Lastly, younger brother Magloire followed them in about 1883.

Sometime thereafter, this branch of the ARBOUR family made the big moveto the Province of Ontario and settled in Simcoe County. The exact date of their move has yet to be determined, although it wasmost likely around spring 1886. In January1886, Louis and Sidonie served as godparents to their grandson in St-Emelie-de-l'Energie. Their next appearance was in Midland, Ontario, as godparents for their niece Mary Louise ARBOURin July 1886.

Once in Ontario, Louis and Sidonie settled in Waubaushene to begin employment with the Georgian Bay Lumber Company. They then served as godparents to several additional family youngsters: great-nephew Alphonse JEAN in June 1887, granddaughter MariaAva ARBOUR in January 1892, and grandson Armos ARBOUR in January 1895, all baptised in Midland.

In 1890, Louis was a tenant farmer on Concession 10, Lot 10, in Waubaushene. The 1891 Census also shows them living in Waubaushene.

Soon after Sidonie's death, Louis appears to have abandoned his farmingefforts and moved into town. By April 1901, widowed and living with his three youngest sons, Louis owned a four-room house withan outbuildingon ¼ acre of Concession 10,Lot 10,C'est ave?e acusaole?ees18 Rivitab» «tab»in the town of Waubaushene. He earned $275 that year at the mill. By May 1911, Louis and son Alexander lived with daughter Elide and family.

Bio from Facebook on 11 April 2010:
11 April 1832 -- Louis-Edmund ARBOUR was one of the children of Jean-Baptiste ARBOUR and Marie-Emelie DORVAL -- our magnificent couple who were parents to 20 children. Born in Joliette City, QC, Louis was the 4th child and 2nd son of Jean-Baptiste and Emelie's brood. Like many generations of ARBOURs before him, Louis became a farmer. The 26-year old farmer married 17-year old Sidonie ETHIER on 07March 1859, in Joliette City. When Edward married Margaret, she didn't know French and demanded that everyone speak English. During theirshort life together, Lucy and Edward were devoted to each other. Upon her premature death, Edward was completely devastated.

No record of Lucy's death can be found. However, there seems to be little question among the family that she died while living in Hoosick Falls. One explanation for this may be that the family was known for being very poor. Perhaps they could not afford a tombstone and that she was not "important" enough for an obituary. However, a death certificate should still have been issued regardless of hercircumstances. --> No longer true! A death certificate was uncovered in early 2005 by descendant Kathleen (DAME) FIERRO.

According to the age at time of death recorded on Lucy's death certificate, she would have been born 02 June 1876, not 22 June. She had 4 children

* Occupation:Telephone Operator (1928)
* Note:Budgisol is definitely an unusual name. Although the Census was clearly written, could this be a mistake? Perhaps her real name is Bridget. In 1930, there was a 21-year old Bridget F. HOWARD, married to a John C. HOWARD and living in Boston,MA, at 14 Horace Street. This Bridget was born in MA but her parents were born in Canada. Bridget and John married 2 years before. He was 43-years oldand had been apparently married before, as there were 9 children, ages 22 down to 7.Could this beour Budgisol? There are no Budgisols listed and this is the only Bridget in MA who seems to remotelyfit into our family.[1930Census]

It turns out that her name might not be Bridget after all. She was alsoknown as Lizzie so perhaps her name was Elizabeth or some variation.

Ok, here we go again, another name for this person. In 1928, she was recorded as Bernadette, which does explain a lot of the B-name varieties.

According to the 1910 Census, Bernadette was born about 1905.

From Denis ARBOUR on 19 Jul 2007: I think finding who Charles' parents will be an almost impossible task . . .

Parrain François Laflamme, Marraine Françoise Laflamme qui n'ont su signede l'e acusaole?ees18 Rivitab» «tab»r." Godfather François Laflamme, godmother Françoise Laflamme who were not able to sign."

Note: When one is baptised as illegitimate, he (or she) is usually not "attached" to anyone. The parents are often recorded as "unknown" or "illegitimate" even tough the priest knows who they are. The father is sometimes recorded as Joseph when hisreal name is unknown.

From Denis ARBOUR on 20 Jul 2007: Why CASSIDY and ARBOUR? Maybe, after all, Charles' illegitimate mother is actually the Charlotte MORIN who married Isaac CASSIDY and his illegitimate father is an ARBOUR. Or, maybe, Charles was adopted by anARBOUR family.

In the 1900 Census, 10 of Moise and Minnie's 12 children were still living.

In the 1910 Census, Moise was recorded as 73, which makes him born in about 1837. Also, Minnie had reportedly given birth to 12 children, only8 of whom were still alive.

By the time of the 1920 Census, Moise had died and Minnie had several of her adult children living with her -- Rose, Albert, and Minnie Eva --as well as 2 grandchildren -- Minnie Eva's son Edward NADEAU and Amelia's daughter Elizabeth WELLS. This Census also erroneously reports thatthe family migrated in 1882, which is impossible, as they were listed in the 1880 Census in Vermont.

02 May 1908 -- Born in Pownal, Vermont, Harold John ARBOUR was the younger of 2 children born to cotton mill worker, liveryman, and farmer John Adelard ARBOUR and his wife Rebecca GOWER. Harold grew up in Pownal and appears to have applied himself in school, where he made the honor roll. The following year in August 1927, Harold entered Allen'sSchool of Commerce in Troy, NY, where he took a 2-year commercial teachers course. After graduation hefound employment as a Business College Teacher, where he worked during the taking of the 1930 Census. In September 1935, Harold seems to have returned to Schenectady, NY, where he wasengaged by the Spencer Business School as head of the secretarial department for the ensuing year. He held this position at least through the1939-1940 school year. Shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Harold felt his call to duty. From Monica LOZO via message board on 26 Jul 2009: I am researching my family history and found that Elisabeth Arbour was married to my g-great grandfather John Lozo. In a 1910 Census I have shows they are marriedand Elisabeth's two sons are on thecensus Harry Arbour, age 8, Henry Arbour, age 6. Elisabeth is on John's death certificate as his wife andJohn is on Elisabeth's death certificate asher husband. Elisabeth is John's second wife, his first wife, Louise Rindeau, died. She was his first wife and the mother of my great-grandfather Samuel Lozo. Samuel wasthe father of Laurance Lozo Sr my grandfather. Laurance Lozo Sr was the father of Laurance Lozo Jr my father.

From Monica LOZO via message board on 26 Jul 2009: I have posted some information for you on a lost Hoosick Falls Family. Elisabeth Arbour wasmarried to my g-great grandfather. I don't know if they had any children together as I am still searchingthis information myself. Elisabeth was much younger than my g-great grandfather but the 1910 Census I have shows Elisabeth's two sons Harry and Henry 8 & 6 yrs old. It also showsthat I had 2 great Aunts that were living in the household at the time,Nora age 10, and Esther age 20 both Lozos. I have been reviewing someof your postings and you havea lot of names that are also in my family. I do know that my g-great grandfather who was married to Elisabeth was also from Canada, not sure whatpartas of yet still going through some papers. I hope this helps you. If I can be of any help please email me at minniehaha a comcast.net.

From Monica LOZO via email on 28 Jul 2009: How are you related to Elizabeth Arbour? Elizabeth's last name Arbour, is that from a former marriage? And do you know who she was married to before? According to the information I have on the 1910 census,it shows John and Elizabeth married and four others living in the household. Nora Lozo, age 10, Harry Arbour, age 8, Henry Arbour, age 6 and Esthur Lozo, age 20. There is no information on a Mary B. (Lozo) born sometime around Mar 1900. So I wouldpresume that Nora, was from John's first wife Louise, not Elizabeth sinceHarry and Henry are younger with the Last name Arbour on the census. Iremember hearing the name Arbour on my fathers side of the family whenI was growing up and that's aboutall. My father's (Lawrence Lozo, Jr.)mother (Doris Charbonneau) died when he was five years old, and he andhis brother Ralph were put in a orphanage (I believe it was St Joseph's) sometime after she died (15 November 1934) she is buried in theBelleview, Adams, MA cemetery; next to my g-grandmother (Delia Lozo) Delia'ssurname was (Matatt) she was married to Samuel Lozo, who was a son of John Lozo. Also my grandfather, Lawrence Lozo, Sr. is buried next to them. I do not have any informationon when John and Elizabeth were married. I do know that they are both buried in the Hoosick Falls Rural Cemetery. Also Nora and Jay Ogden Buck had a daughter named Janette Elizabeth Buck who was born in 1920 and died 27 June 1921. She is also buried in the Hoosick Rural Cemetery. I have attached a copy of the 1910 censusthat my brother gave me, printed from ancestry.com

From an email to Monica LOZO on 17 Aug 2009:
Elizabeth ARBOUR was born the 5th of 12 children to Moise ARBOUR and Melina VAILLANT on 05 Jan 1869, in L'Assomption, Quebec. Her family emigrated to the US in 1878. Elizabeth was only ever married to John LOZO, to my knowledge. They were married on 30 May 1897 in Pownal, VT. This information comes from a kind woman in the Pownal library, who supplied agreat deal of birth, marriage, and death info for this ARBOUR branch.

Elizabeth and John are found in the 1900 Census with
Joseph 22 b Mar 1878
John 20 b Jan 1880
Napoleon 17 b Oct 1882
George 15 b Aug 1884
Louis 13 b Nov 1886
Arthur 11 b Feb 1888
who are presumably all children from John's first marriage to Louise RINDEAU.
Nora 1 b Nov 1898
Mary B 2 mos b Mar 1900

Elizabeth and John are found in the 1910 Census with
Nora E 10
Harry ARBOUR 8
Henry ARBOUR 6
who are both Elizabeth's nephews; they are sons of her brother Moses.
Arthur LOZO 20
who is John's son Arthur from his first marriage.
The strange thing about this Census is that Elizabeth is noted as only having had 1 child and that 1 child is still living. Why no mention of Mary B? Perhaps the Census taker did not even ask Elizabeth how many children she had borne and just assumed Nora was the only one.

Elizabeth and John are found in the 1920 Census with
Joseph MUSEAU 45
who was a border.
By the way, Elizabeth and John lived next door to daughter Nora and herhusband Jay BUCK at the time of the Census. Their daughter seems to have not yet been born.
___

According to her Death Registration, Elizabeth was born on 06 Jan 1869.

According to cemetery records, Elizabeth died on 03 Apr 1941. She had 3children

NHL Totals 47 5 1 6 56

Twenty years of pro hockey saw Jack get into the NHL for just 47 total games over two seasons, with first Detroit and then Toronto. Jack was astar in Western Canada with Calgary in the early 1920s until he was sold to the Detroit Cougars prior to the start of the 1926-27 season. He produced five points and 46 penalty minutes with the first-year franchise, but the team didn't make the playoffs and he found himself in the minors with the Detroit Olympic the next year. At this point, he was traded from Detroit to Toronto for Sailor Herberts, one of the bigger deals of the time, but he lasted only ten games with the Maple Leafs beforebeing demoted to the Can-Pro league. Although Jack never made it back to the NHL, he did play another decade, first with the old Windsor Bulldogs of the International league and later in the Pacific Coast league. He retired in 1939.

Upon return fromthe War, Elmerresumed playing hockey. In those days if you came to a small town to play hockey for them, the townspeople found you a job. Elmer eventually came to Gravenhurst, Ontario, to play for the Indians. While in Gravenhurst, he met Ruth, his future wife. Later Elmer went to play for the Powassan Hawks and was offered a job with Ontario Hydro. They owned a home in town as well as a cottageon the east end of Lake Nipissing, just outside of Callander, Ontario. Arbour was born in 1903 in Bennington, where her grandfather had a livery stable, she said. Her parentsmoved to North Pownal in 1917, where she attended grammar school. * Note:There is some mystery surrounding the life of Moses. On 26 Jun 1887, he married "Pluba" POST in Pownal, VT. The 1900 Census shows his wife as being named "Rheba," who was born May 1860 in QC. It also shows a daughter Addie born in Oct1890 (nothing more is ever found of this girl) and a son Fred born in May 1894. Well, Fred's death record shows him born on 09 Nov 1893. Which is correct? Furthermore, the 1920 and the 1930 Census returns show Moses as being married to "Mary," who was bornin QC in about 1872. The 1920 Census also shows several more children for Moses: Harry (b ca 1901 VT), Henry (b ca 1903 VT), and Budgisol (b ca 1908 MA) (nothing more is ever found of this girl either). In VT vital records, there is a birth recordfor a male child (no doubt our Harry) born in Stamford, VT, on 31 Mar 1901 to Moses ARBOUR and "Libbie," who was born in Plattsburg, NY. However, a check of Pownal, VT, records shows a death record for Harry Joseph ARBOURborn in Stamford, VT (ok here), to Moses ARBOUR and "Philomene ALLARD." Who is she? In addition, VT vital records show the birth of Henry Albert ARBOUR on 4 Feb 1903 to Moses ARBOUR and "Thebie" POST (or PORT, handwriting is poor). Accordingto the same source, this Thebie was born about 1866 in Burlington, VT.Is Pluba, Rheba, Libbie, and Theba all the same woman? How does one explain Rheba (b 1860 QC), Libbie (b NY), and Theba (b 1866 VT)? Also, how does Mary fit in here? Is Philomene ALLARD someone whom Moses marriedlater in life?
--> Note added on 16 Sep 2011: How is it that dau Irene's mother was listed as Phoebe ALLARD in 1898, when Moses did not marry Ms. ALLARD until 1904? It is all very confusing.
--> At the time of Moses death, no wife was mentioned in his obituary. Interesting.

Moses Arbour and Harry Allsop, who went to Bennington last week with teams to draw stone for a large wall that is being built in consequence of the big washout last fall, returned the day after they went, the conditions being found quite different from what they expected. They say they were given a box stall for a bedroom and that their teams were placed in a very dangerous position at the quarry, large stones being swung by derricks directly over the horses. One horse on the job was ruined by a 4200-pound rock hitting him and there have been several narrow escapes.

Furthermore, there is considerable history of the building in which Pierre located his printing business, http://www.vieux.montreal.qc.ca/inventaire/fiches/eng/stpaul_o_171.htm. According toMorrey's Classified Business Directory in 1899, a printing and publishing business known as Arbour& Laperle was located at 421 St Paul St in Montreal -- now at the address known as 171 rue Saint-Paul Ouest. Printer Pierre-Alexis Arbour wasnoted as Tenant from c.1895 to c. 1910, during which time he rented the building fromthe Corporation of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Montreal.
