  During his teenage years, Lawrence went to the big city of Toronto to secure work and build himself a life. Lawrence later moved to Hamilton, Ontario, and seems to have stayed there the rest of his life. On 7 Feb 1924, Lawrence is believed to have traveled to the US, crossing at Port Huron, MI. He claimed that he was coming from the home of hisfather Peter ARBOUR, 483 John St N, Hamilton, ON, to hisfriend Arthur CHALUT, 402 Stand St, Flint,MI. Lawrence was a carpenter's apprentice who carried $50 in his pocket. He was noted to be in good health, 5' 11"with a medium complexion, brown hair, andbrown eyes. He was never in the US before this time but it is difficult to read how long he plannedtostay. One interesting note is that he was recorded as being single, even though his marriage date shows he had already wed Clarabelle in Jan1923.
