At the time of his enlistment in the regular Army on 20 Feb 1858, Franklin was noted to be 5' 7" with grey eyes, brown hair, anda dark complexion. He made his 5-year commitment to Lieut BONNYCASTLE in Louisville, KY. Franklin then appears to have re-enlisted during the Civil War.
