Gerard J. Arbour Sr. -- Estero, FL -- Gerard Joseph "Jerry" Arbour Sr.,83, of Estero, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, 9 September 2011,at Life Care Center of Estero, with his family by his side. Formerly of Augusta, Maine, he had been a resident of Southwest Florida since 2000. Jerry was born 9 November 1927, in Augusta, Maine, the son of the late Anselme and Marie-Ange (Poulin) Arbour. Jerry was predeceased in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Norma Gates Arbour, and his sister,Jeanne D'Arc Daigle. Mr. Arbour was a veteran of the US Army and Merchant Marines. He was most proud of being an interpreter for Dwight D. Eisenhower while being stationed in Paris, France. He owned and operated Jerry Arbour IceCream Distributorship Inc. which he built from scratch and serviced primarily Vermont and the New England area. He employed several people throughout the years. He was also a well-respected state representative for the state of Vermont. Mr. Arbour will best be remembered for his kind generosity, his love of life, his ability to bring out the best in people, and for his keen ability to walk into a room and make people happy! But far more important, he will always be remembered forthe deep love he had for his family -- they were everything to him. Heis survived by his loving children, Gerard J. Arbour Jr. of Naples, FL, Michele A. (Christine Gray) Arbour of Estero,Fla., Stephanie (Sebastian) Haase of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Therese (Larry) Gates of Athens,Texas, Claudette (Edward) Bridgers of Cape Coral, FL; loving mother, Isabelle Arbour of Augusta, Maine; grandsons, Jarred Davis Arbour of Charlotte, N.C., Jordan Joseph (Melissa) Arbour of Milton, MA; great-grandson, Hunter Joseph Arbour; Stacie Zavistaski of Rutland, VT; and several loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to publicly express theirgratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Life Care Center of Estero for their compassion, love, friendship and professional care continuouslygiven to our father. His life was enriched by all of them! I remember when yourDad would be with my Mom & Dad and come into my parents stores he was bigger then life to me. I remember driving around in his "Bat-mobile!" I have often thought of your Dad and family, and have missed you beautiful family over the years. My sincere condolences to the Arbour family. I have such fond memories esp. loading the trucks full of ice cream. It was a summer job in high school.Gerard had such a beautiful voice, there were manya saturday night after a night of dinner and dancing that the legion group would cometo our family home and my mom would fix a big breakfast and as usual Ifound my way to the entertainment center(kimble organ) and play with Gerard behind me singing. To the Arbour family, Word cannot express how much your Mom and Dad meant to me as a child. They were the best! If my parents couldn't find me, more times than not I was at your house. There are too many memories of your Dad for me to tell. During the 1960s and 70s I was a delivery-salesman in the Rutland area so I got to know Jerry that way.
