Notes - Et de Laporte dit St-Georges...Jacques (de) LAPORTE dit SAINT-GEORGES who came from a little town by the name of Noce in the former area of Perche, France. His father in Noce, also named Jacques, was an innkeeper and baker and was very closeto the local baron, so it is assumed he wasclose to royalty. He also knew how to read & write which was uncommon in those days. Because of this, he appears in manylegal acts of that period in Noce (early 17th) century). Jacques (de) LAPORTE,Jr who came toCanada lived smack in what is currently downtown Montreal, so it is assumed he was not a farmer like most other immigrants - he would not have learned the skills from his father - so it is assumed he was also a baker. His nameappears in several descriptions of skirmishes with both Indians and the clergy, so he must have been quite a character!Witnessesat his wedding were several very prominent founders of Montreal.*Also known as Jacques LaPorte-dit-St. George.[Arbour18-09-2004-200.FTW]...Jacques (de) LAPORTE dit SAINT-GEORGES who came from a little town by thename of Noce in the former area of Perche, France.
