MARY HELEN (ARBOUR) MCVAY 30 July 1928 -- 25 February 2013
Mary Helen Arbour McVay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away 25 February 2013, surrounded by her family. While her memory was slowly taken from her by Alzheimer's, she remained theheart of our family. Mary was bornin Plaquemine, Louisiana on 30 July 1928 to Mattie and Warren Arbour. Her older sister Ruth (deceased) and younger brother John (living) completed thefamily. They moved to Vancouver in 1935 where Warren owned and operated a grocery store. Mary spentmany days after school helping her father at the store. Mary met her future husband, Bill, in Aprilof 1947 and were married on October 18th of the same year. Over their 65 years of marriage, they raised 3 children, Jeffrey, Shari and Dave who gave her 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. While Mary's number one focus was always her family and raising her children, she did become a manager for Hickory Farms in the Commercial Sales division and worked for thatorganization for 20 years.Mary loved to travel, spending the month of March in Palm Desert each year, along with family vacations to Sunriver and the beach. Anything thatgot her on the road was a good day to her. Mary is survived by her husband, Bill; children, Jeffrey McVay (Pam), Shari Ludlow (Mike) and DaveMcVay (Bobbie); grandchildren, Katherine Kissick, Alex McVay, Jessica Ludlow, Jacob Ludlow, Kalah McVay, Tyler McVay; and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will beheld at St Joseph's Catholic Church inVancouver at 11:00 am on Friday, March 1st. The family would like to thank caregivers Vicky and Peter Cutile for opening their home and hearts to Mary and our family in her final days.
