- On 28 May 1944, Ena crossed the border into the US at Niagara Falls, NY. She carried British passport #36309, valid until 14 Mar 1949. She claimed that she was going to the home of Harry HICKEY in Lewiston, NY, tovisit for a few hours; however, shesailed out of Halifax in Apr 1944 on the SS Louis Pasteur -- seems like a long way to go for just a few hours. In any event, Ena was reported to be 5' 1 1/12" with a fair complexion, brown hair, and brown eyes. She had $2 in her pocketbook. Ena seems to have left young Helen in the care of her mother-in-law.
