• Notes

  On 9 June 1887, 12-year old Joseph, along with several of his cousins, was confirmed into the Catholic Church by Reverend John Joseph LYNCH, Archbishop of Toronto, while in Waubaushene. He then witnessed the marriage of his brother Xavierin September 1892 in LaFontaine. In April 1893, he became godfather to nephew Omer BOURDON in Midland. As young adults but before their own marriage, Joseph and Vitaline FOURNIER stood witness at his younger brother Peter's wedding in August1897 at St Margaret's in Midland. After their wedding, Joseph and Vitaline settled in Waubaushene, where their first four children were born. In April 1901, the family lived in a house on his father's property, just outside Waubaushene. Theyhad their first two daughters by the time the census takercame around and their third daughter was born just a few days later. Joseph earned $384 that year at the mill. In 1903, they moved to Victoria Harbour, where they appear to have remained for the rest of their lives. Joseph and Vitaline eventually had 10 children in all, seven daughters and three sons. Throughout his life, Joseph worked as a farmer, sawyer, and general laborer.
